Closure of Anguk Station from First Train on April 4, the Day of Presidential Impeachment Trial Verdict

Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) will implement the highest level of safety measures on the 4th, the day of the presidential impeachment trial verdict, including closing Anguk Station on Line 3 from the first train, controlling entrances at 14 major stations such as Hangangjin Station on Line 6, and allowing trains to pass without stopping.

The company plans to deploy 350 safety personnel, 258 more than usual, at 15 stations expected to be crowded (Jonggak Station on Line 1, City Hall Station on Lines 1 and 2, Jongno 3-ga Station on Lines 1, 3, and 5, Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station on Line 2, Anguk Station and Gyeongbokgung Station on Line 3, Gwanghwamun Station, Yeouido Station, and Yeouinaru Station on Line 5, Hangangjin Station, Itaewon Station, and Beotigogae Station on Line 6). Additionally, 92 reserve support personnel will be on standby to be immediately deployed to the relevant stations in case of emergencies.

Anguk Station on Line 3 has been operating its entrances flexibly since the 1st due to safety concerns from crowding, and on the 4th, the day of the impeachment trial verdict, trains will pass through without stopping and the station will be completely closed from the first train.

Furthermore, safety fences will be installed around the ground-level ventilation shafts near the entrances of Anguk Station to prevent falls. Anguk Station is scheduled to remain closed until the end of business on the day of the impeachment verdict, but reopening will be considered depending on the situation.

Entrances 4 and 5 of Jongno 3-ga Station, adjacent to Anguk Station, will also be fully closed from the first train on the 4th.

Besides Anguk Station, 14 other stations including Hangangjin Station will implement safety measures according to the situation. If there are safety concerns, trains will pass without stopping, and if necessary, police personnel will assist in blocking and controlling entrances.

Safety inspections of customer contact facilities will also be strengthened. Major station facilities such as elevators and escalators will be thoroughly pre-inspected, and technical staff will be stationed at the 14 major stations, excluding the closed Anguk Station, to promptly respond to any facility issues.

Additionally, to alleviate station congestion, additional trains will be operated. Two emergency standby trains and temporary trains will be arranged on each of Lines 2, 3, 5, and 6, totaling eight trains, to be deployed as needed.

President Baek Ho convened an emergency countermeasure meeting on the 1st to finalize safety management plans with heads of related departments including operations, technology, and crew, and visited Anguk Station, Jongno 3-ga Station, and Gwanghwamun Station on the 2nd to inspect the sites.

President Baek said, “The company is prioritizing citizens' safety and cooperating with related agencies, making every effort to prepare for any eventuality. Although station closures and entrance controls may cause inconvenience in subway use, we ask citizens for their active cooperation for safety.”
