Hong Jun-pyo "Predicts Impeachment Dismissal... The Key Is How to Overcome the Aftermath"

"Expecting President Yoon's Statecraft"

With two days remaining until the impeachment trial verdict of President Yoon Seok-yeol, Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, stated, "I predict the impeachment will be dismissed."

On the 2nd, Mayor Hong said on his Facebook, "Originally, many expected the simultaneous departure of Representative Lee Jae-myung and President Yoon due to the public demand to end their hostile symbiotic relationship." He added, "However, due to the Seoul High Court's forced acquittal by strange judges temporarily reviving Representative Lee, it is naturally expected that President Yoon will also survive at the Constitutional Court."

He emphasized, "The issue is how to overcome the aftermath after the impeachment dismissal, which is key to national stability," and added, "I look forward to President Yoon's groundbreaking statecraft (statecraft: the art of governance)."

Earlier, the National Assembly referred President Yoon to the impeachment trial for violating the Constitution and laws during the process of declaring martial law on December 3 last year and deploying the military to the National Assembly and the Central Election Commission. However, President Yoon's side argued that the martial law was a warning, that the declaration, maintenance, and lifting processes complied with the law, and that there was no order to arrest politicians or drag out lawmakers. The Constitutional Court held 11 hearings to listen to both sides' arguments and, after concluding the hearings, has been reviewing the case through frequent deliberations among the justices.

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court will decide on December 4 whether to dismiss or reinstate President Yoon. This will be 111 days since President Yoon was impeached on December 14 last year. If the Constitutional Court upholds the impeachment, President Yoon will be removed from office; if dismissed or rejected, he will immediately return to duty. A removal decision requires the approval of at least six of the eight sitting justices.
