25,000 Tulips Planted
A Spectacular Flower Festival from Forsythias to Azaleas
Gijang-gun, Busan, has recently created a tulip flower path along the Jwagwangcheon area, offering beautiful spring scenery to local residents and tourists.
The county planted 25,000 tulips around the slopes near Pyeongjeon Bridge, Yongsang Bridge, and Guyeon Bridge along Jwagwangcheon, which are popular walking spots for residents, allowing them to enjoy the vibrant beauty of tulips in their daily lives.
The tulips planted this time were grown by the county itself after purchasing bulbs in November last year, resulting in a budget saving of approximately 22.5 million KRW.
In addition, at the Azalea Hill near Manghyangjeong Pavilion along Jwagwangcheon, 7,000 azaleas, the county flower, planted last November, are now in full bloom, signaling the start of spring. To mark the 30th anniversary of the county's reestablishment and the 10th anniversary of Jeonggwan-eup's elevation this year, the county plans to create an additional Azalea Hill on the opposite side, providing more attractions and activities, and fostering local pride and affection among Gijang residents.
Jwagwangcheon is a 14.5-kilometer-long local stream originating from Byeongsangol in Jeonggwan-eup and flowing to Imrang Beach in Jangan-eup. It serves as a resting place for residents and is regarded as a major tourist resource in the area. Along the Jwagwangcheon trail, forsythias, the heralds of spring, are followed by cherry blossoms and tulips in full bloom, and in May, a festival of roses will take place at Witgol Park and Gumokjeong Park.
County Governor Jeong Jongbok said, "Jwagwangcheon has become a healing space where local residents and tourists can recharge their health and happiness close to everyday life," adding, "We will plant a variety of seasonal flowers and create a trail that blooms year-round, transforming the Jwagwangcheon area into a landmark garden of Busan."
The county is currently promoting the "Jwagwangcheon Local Garden Registration Project," aiming to register the Jwagwangcheon area in Jeonggwan-eup as the first local garden among Busan's basic local governments, and is concentrating all administrative efforts to achieve final registration in the first half of this year.
