Kwon Seong-dong "Lee Bok-hyun should pack up and leave the office"... Lee Bok-hyun "Yoon would not have used the veto"

Kwon Seong-dong: "If you said you would risk your position, you shouldn't expect the veto to be overturned"
Lee Bok-hyun conveys resignation to Financial Services Commission chairman

Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, said on the 2nd that it is the proper attitude for Lee Bok-hyun, the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) chief who risked his position by opposing the exercise of the re-request right (veto power) on the amendment to the Commercial Act, to pack up and leave the office building.

After concluding the party meeting that day, Kwon met with reporters and, when asked about Director Lee, said, "If a public official publicly declared that he would risk his position if the veto power was exercised against the people, and that official is a high-ranking public official, not an ordinary civil servant, then one should not expect the veto to be accepted." He added, "Submitting a resignation letter and packing up to leave the office building is the proper attitude of a public official and a way to keep promises to the people."

Earlier, Director Lee revealed his intention to resign during a CBS radio interview, stating, "I contacted the Financial Services Commission chairman to explain my position." However, regarding the veto by Acting Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, he said, "Protecting shareholder value and advancing the capital market are important policies directly promoted by the President, and if the President were present, I am confident that I would not have exercised the veto."

Regarding these remarks, Floor Leader Kwon said, "I think it is an arrogant attitude," and added, "Based on my public service experience, I believe it is unacceptable for the FSS chief to dare mention the President and unilaterally claim that the President would share his views."

Previously, Director Lee had stated that he would risk his position concerning the amendment to the Commercial Act, which was led and passed by the opposition party. Although the amendment passed the plenary session, Acting President and Prime Minister Han Deok-soo exercised the veto, so the National Assembly must re-vote on it.
