Bucheon City Signs 'RISE Project' Agreement with 4 Universities to Lead Regional Innovation

On the 1st, Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province signed a business agreement with four local universities to successfully promote the 'Gyeonggi-do RISE' project.


The signing ceremony was attended by Jo Yong-ik, Mayor of Bucheon, Choi Jun-gyu, President of Catholic University, Hwang Deok-hyung, President of Seoul Theological University, Han Jeong-seok, President of Bucheon University, and Kim Hyun-joong, President of Yuhan University. They shared a common understanding of the purpose of the RISE project to lead university innovation driven by the region and strengthen cooperation with the local community, expressing their willingness to collaborate.


The RISE project is being implemented from this year to overcome the decline in the school-age population and the crisis faced by local universities, while simultaneously supporting regional development and university innovation.

Through this agreement, Bucheon City and the universities plan to lead regional innovation based on continuous cooperation, striving to achieve tangible results such as operating university-local linkage cooperation programs, fostering local talent, and creating employment and start-up ecosystems.


The presidents of the four universities stated, "We will nurture talent that contributes to the local community through cooperation with local governments, industries, and companies," and added, "We will actively work to attract international students needed by Bucheon industries and create a residential environment for both domestic and foreign students."


Mayor Jo said, "We will spare no administrative support to ensure the successful promotion of the RISE project," and added, "At this important time when Bucheon City is transitioning into an education and research & development (R&D) centered city, I hope universities and the region will closely cooperate and grow together."
