Photo Spot Featuring Flowers, Moon, Stars, and Benches Gains Popularity for Commemorative Photos
A new landscape lighting installation has been unveiled at Mangdeok Port, which is emerging as a hub of tourism in the southern coastal Namjung region, blending nature, humanities, nightscapes, and culinary delights into a waterfront healing destination.
The city of Gwangyang, Jeonnam, announced on the 2nd that it has completed the installation of landscape lighting featuring flowers, the moon, stars, benches, and other elements of relaxation and romance at the Citizen Impression Garden in Jinwol-myeon, located at Mangdeok Port.
The landscape lighting, installed midway between the Yun Dongju Manuscript Preservation Jeong Byungwook House and the Yun Dongju Poetry Garden, features a gray full moon with crater-like indentations at the center of a circular flower bed.
In addition, 420 flower sculptures surround the round moon, while two cube-shaped boxes with star-shaped perforations and white benches are harmoniously arranged, serving as a perfect rest stop for travelers.
Especially after sunset, the moon, stars, flowers, and benches all light up together to create a mystical nightscape, making it a popular photo spot where passersby stop to take commemorative photos.
The city expects that, following the opening of the activity attraction Gwangyang Zipwire 'Seomjingang Starry Sky' last December, the newly installed landscape lighting will further enhance the emotional and romantic atmosphere of Mangdeok Port.
Kim Miran, head of Gwangyang City's Tourism Division, said, "The landscape lighting installed at the Citizen Impression Garden in Mangdeok Port was created with romantic themes such as the moon and stars, reminiscent of Yun Dongju's posthumous work 'Sky, Wind, Stars, and Poetry,' and was emotionally realized. I hope visitors will relax on the benches, reflect on Yun Dongju's poetic spirit that shone like a lantern in dark times, and capture wonderful life photos."
Meanwhile, the areas of Bael Island and Mangdeok Port are actively pursuing large-scale comprehensive tourism development projects to usher in the era of ten million tourists, including the Jeonnam-style regional growth strategy project 'Yun Dongju's Starlight Island in Seomjingang,' the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 'Southern Region Wide-Area Tourism Development Plan' project 'Artcation Tourism Stay,' and the creation of the largest camping site at the southernmost tip of the Baekdudaegan mountain range.
