The government implements the Seasonal Fine Dust Management Program every year from December to March of the following year, a period when high concentrations of fine dust frequently occur, in order to reduce fine dust emissions in each industrial sector and protect public health.

To implement the 6th Seasonal Fine Dust Management Program, BPA established the 'Busan Port 6th Seasonal Fine Dust Management Implementation Plan' in December last year.

Main initiatives include regular inspections of terminals handling dust-generating cargo within the port area, joint campaigns with related organizations, and inspections of dust management practices at Busan Port construction sites.

For the regular inspections of terminals handling dust-generating cargo, BPA conducted a total of eight inspections, twice a month during the program period, targeting terminals handling dust-generating cargo such as soil and grain. The inspections checked the operation status of dust prevention facilities such as dust barriers (nets) and wheel washing facilities, and reviewed dust management practices such as minimizing drop heights and water spraying during cargo handling.

In December last year, to promote the 6th Seasonal Fine Dust Management Program, BPA held a joint campaign at Yongdang Naetruck House together with Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, and Busan City.

BPA and related organizations promoted the government's fine dust reduction policies to cargo truck drivers, such as restrictions on the operation of Grade 5 vehicles and support projects for emission reduction measures for old vehicles, and provided free vehicle emission inspections.

In addition, BPA inspected the use of old construction machinery at large Busan Port construction sites with a contract amount of 10 billion KRW or more, and visited construction sites to check the installation of wheel washing and water spraying facilities and whether dump truck beds were sealed, as part of dust management inspections.

Lee Sangkwon, Head of Construction Headquarters at BPA, said, "BPA is making efforts to improve air quality during the seasonal management period by establishing a dust management plan tailored to the characteristics of Busan Port," and added, "Even after the end of the seasonal management program, we will continue to do our best in fine dust management to protect the health of port workers and local residents."
