SK Chemicals Expands into AI... Signs Safety Management System Supply Contract with UDM Tech

Work Safety System Built with SK Discovery
Paid Supply to Digital Manufacturing Platform Company UDM Tech
Planned Expansion to SK Gas and Others Based on Successful Cases

SK Chemicals has signed a supply contract to expand the application of its generative artificial intelligence (AI)-based smart safety management system to other industrial sites. This is the first time the company has signed a paid supply contract externally using its self-developed AI technology. The system is a work safety analysis automation system built by SK Chemicals in collaboration with SK Discovery DX Lab.

On the 2nd, SK Chemicals announced that it had signed a supply contract with UDM Tech for the licensing of core technology of the generative AI-based safety management system. UDM Tech is a company that develops and supplies AI technology-based application software, and through this contract, it secured business rights for the usage of SK Chemicals' generative AI-based smart safety management system, including the AI model source code. UDM Tech plans to apply its own technology to improve data analysis accuracy and continuously enhance the performance of the AI learning model.

The two companies plan to expand the system's application within the year to affiliates such as SK Gas, SK Bioscience, SK Plasma, and Ulsan Gas Power Solution (GPS). They also announced plans to broaden the applicable industries and target companies based on accumulated data and experience from various sites.

Work safety analysis is an essential process to ensure worker safety and prevent accidents in industrial sites. Previously, it was conducted manually, leading to differences in quality depending on the writer's experience and capabilities. The AI-based safety management system converts accumulated cases and documents into data to recommend and suggest potential risk factors during work execution, thereby reducing the risk level of tasks.

Once data for each industrial task is secured, specialized work safety analysis can be generated for various industries beyond the chemical sector, including steel, semiconductors, heavy industry, automotive, secondary batteries, and food. It also has the advantage of being able to respond immediately to real-time changes in the work environment.

Yoo Ho-seop, Head of Production Infrastructure Division at SK Chemicals, said, "The generative AI-based safety management system has improved management efficiency at production sites and enabled systematic safety management." He added, "SK Chemicals will cooperate with UDM Tech and the entire industrial sector to ensure that the system developed by SK Chemicals contributes to raising safety standards across industries beyond its affiliates."
