2 Billion KRW Donated to Wildfire-Affected Areas
Remaining Funds to Support Low-Income Families
The Bank of Korea and the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation announced on the 2nd that they donated the entire proceeds of approximately 466 million KRW generated from the auction of fast serial numbers of the '50,000 KRW connected banknotes,' which consist of two connected 50,000 KRW bills.
A Bank of Korea official explained, "We sent 200 million KRW to the areas affected by the recent large-scale wildfires, and the remaining amount will be delivered to socially vulnerable groups such as low-income families." The donation will be executed through the Community Chest of Korea (Fruit of Love), a legally authorized fundraising and distribution organization.
Meanwhile, the auction targeted 900 sets corresponding to serial numbers 101 to 1000 printed on the upper part of the two-note sheet. The auction took place from October last year to February this year, generating total proceeds of 466,116,871 KRW. Serial numbers 1 to 100 will be registered as specimen banknotes by the Bank of Korea and displayed at the Currency Museum when necessary.
