On the 4th, Ajou University announced that it held a signing ceremony attended by President Choi Ki-joo, along with Kim Jin-sang, President of Kyung Hee University; Yoo Ji-beom, President of Sungkyunkwan University; Lee Ki-jung, President of Hanyang University; and Hwang Soo-sung, President of Korea Polytechnic University.

At the signing ceremony held on the 1st at Korea Polytechnic University, the presidents of the five universities agreed to cooperate in fostering Gyeonggi Province’s seven future growth industries (G7)?semiconductors, AI big data, advanced mobility, bio, renewable energy, quantum, and digital transformation?by utilizing the educational and research resources each university possesses.

The five universities participating in this agreement are member universities of the Gyeonggi Academia-Industry Alliance (GAIA), and they are collaborating to successfully implement the ‘Gyeonggi Province Regional Innovation-Centered University Support System (RISE)’ announced by Gyeonggi Province earlier this year. The purpose is to bring together leading educational and research universities in the province to connect Gyeonggi Province with companies, experts, and citizens, and to share the future and common values of local communities transformed by advanced technologies.

The agreement among the five universities includes leading the Gyeonggi Academia-Industry Alliance (GAIA), supporting local industries through sharing industry-academia-research-government-public-citizen cooperation infrastructure, and jointly developing major project programs and promoting their outcomes.

Additionally, various cooperative programs will be carried out, such as regular exchange meetings in the G7 (Gyeonggi Province’s seven future growth industries) fields, establishing GAIA centers within each university, hosting GAIA-day events, joint university industry-academia cooperation expos, participation in joint exhibitions, seminars, special lectures, and workshops.

President Choi Ki-joo of Ajou University said, “The universities in the province, which are leading South Korea’s education and research sectors, have pledged to participate in fostering Gyeonggi Province’s future growth industries,” adding, “We will actively participate in securing future growth engines and contribute to coexistence with the local community.”
