Good Neighbors announced on the 2nd that actress Kim Go-eun donated 50 million won to help residents and children in Myanmar affected by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake.
The donated funds will be used for ongoing emergency relief efforts in Myanmar. Good Neighbors is distributing emergency relief kits consisting of food and daily necessities in central and northern Myanmar, the earthquake-affected areas, and Bangkok, Thailand, and is conducting Psychosocial Support (PSS) programs for children. In 2020, Kim Go-eun donated 100 million won to support low-income families in Korea struggling due to COVID-19 and was registered in Good Neighbors' high-donor group, 'The Neighbors Honors Club.' Kim Go-eun said, "I was heartbroken to hear the news of Myanmar, where people lost their homes in an instant," adding, "I sincerely send my heartfelt support to the residents in the affected areas who are in sorrow."
Earlier, Minnie (real name: Nicha Yontararak), the main vocalist of the girl group (G)I-DLE, donated 100 million won to the Korean Red Cross on the 1st to support recovery efforts for the large-scale earthquake damage in Myanmar and Thailand. Minnie had also donated 100 million won to the Korean Red Cross on the 31st to aid recovery from nationwide wildfires. Additionally, she donated 20 million won for the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquake recovery. Minnie said, "I was deeply saddened to hear about the suffering caused by the earthquake in Thailand and Myanmar," adding, "Especially since Thailand is my hometown, I felt a special connection." She continued, "I decided to donate to contribute even a small help," and expressed, "I sincerely hope the affected areas recover quickly and that the disaster victims return safely to their daily lives."
Korea World Vision has pledged support of approximately 7 billion won (5 million USD), while Good Neighbors and ChildFund Korea are conducting emergency relief efforts worth 500,000 USD each.
