For Fathers with Children Aged 3 Months to Under 7 Years
1:1 Customized Education to Support Fathers' Active Participation in Childcare
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) will operate the "1:1 Dad Childcare Consulting" program from April to October to expand fathers' participation in caregiving and establish their proactive role in parenting.
Recently, fathers' interest in childcare has been increasing, but many face difficulties due to a lack of practical information and experience. Although there are various childcare books and online resources available, tailored education considering individual circumstances is still insufficient.
In response, the district, in cooperation with the Dongdaemun-gu Family Center, will provide 1:1 customized childcare education reflecting the child's developmental stage and each family's characteristics. Through this, it plans to enhance fathers' childcare expertise and help build positive relationships with their children, supporting a balance between work and family life.
Applications will be accepted in April through daycare centers and kindergartens for fathers with children aged from 3 months to under 7 years. Each family will receive a total of two consulting sessions (2 hours per session), conducted at the applicant's home, the Family Center counseling room, or external education venues. Extensions up to six sessions are possible based on expert judgment.
Childcare specialists will visit homes or observe fathers' participation in childcare directly at education sites to identify children's behavioral traits and problem behaviors for guidance. They will also provide various customized consultations, including play methods with children, positive communication techniques, and strategies for holistic development. If necessary, the program will connect families to couple and family counseling for continuous support.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "Through this 1:1 Dad Childcare Consulting, I hope fathers acquire practical childcare skills and strengthen their relationships with their children," adding, "I expect that sharing childcare responsibilities within families will improve marital relationships and spread a culture of co-parenting."
