Applicants Must Choose from Five Types: Terrain-Utilization, Nature-Friendly, Body Play, and More
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 2nd that it will hold a public contest for apartment complexes to participate in the ‘Child-Friendly Playground Remodeling Project’ until the 10th.

This project is promoted as part of the child-friendly city initiative, selecting three playgrounds within apartment complexes and providing up to 100 million KRW per complex for remodeling costs.
The eligibility requirement is complexes with more than 150 households.
The representatives of residents must submit the application form and project plan, available on the Seongnam City website (search ‘playground’ in announcements), in person to the Childcare Division on the 6th floor of City Hall.
When applying, applicants must choose one of five proposed types for each playground they wish to remodel within the complex: terrain-utilization type, nature-friendly type, facility-centered type, body play type, or hybrid type.
These child-friendly playground types were developed based on the ‘Outdoor Playground Guidelines’ independently researched and produced by Seongnam City. They support the creation of play spaces tailored to the site conditions and children’s characteristics, moving away from conventional standardized playground formats.
The city will comprehensively evaluate the aging condition of the playgrounds in the applying complexes, safety management, resident participation, and the direction of creating child-friendly playgrounds to select support targets in May.
Selected complexes will receive support for playground remodeling.
A ‘Child Play Rights Promotion Advisory Group’ composed of four professors and experts in the field of child play will provide consulting support from the start to the completion of the playground construction.
The expected cost for playground remodeling is 200 million KRW per complex.
The subsidy provided by Seongnam City and the complex’s self-payment ratio are each 50%.
Seongnam City introduced this project in 2021 and has supported the child-friendly remodeling of six playgrounds in apartment complexes such as Dongbundang Parkview in Dochon-dong and Parkview Apartments in Jeongja-dong over the past three years.
