The United States Forces Korea (USFK) officially stated via its social media account that the claim "If martial law is declared, US troops could be deployed" is false information.
According to USFK on the 1st, the official USFK X (formerly Twitter) account responded in English to a user’s post saying, "If a wildfire is linked to spies or China, DEFCON martial law and US troop deployment could happen immediately," with "Do not spread false information."
When the user reacted by asking, "Are you sure you properly understood Korean?" the USFK official account replied again, "It was properly translated," and "Someone tagged us, and we told them not to spread false information."
USFK also stated, "US military units cannot be mobilized under Korean martial law, and such an event did not occur last December either."
Although it was online, it is unusual for the official USFK account to respond in this manner to an individual user’s post.
The user who initially posted the message deleted it, and the reply from the USFK account has also disappeared.
Regarding the reason for posting such a message, USFK said, "We use social media as a tool to provide transparency in our activities," adding, "We communicate directly with the public and share deeper stories about the ROK-US alliance."
