Heavy Traffic Causes Long Wait Times
Applications Accepted Until 5 p.m. on the 3rd
The enthusiasm of citizens to attend the impeachment trial verdict of President Yoon Seok-yeol, held at the Constitutional Court on the 4th, is intense.
According to Yonhap News on the 1st, the Constitutional Court announced the verdict date and began accepting attendance applications through its website from 4 p.m. that day. However, due to a surge in access, applicants must wait a considerable amount of time to reach the application page.
By around 5:30 p.m., approximately 51,000 people were waiting to apply.
Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on the 3rd. Afterwards, a digital lottery will be conducted, and those selected will be notified of the attendance procedures via text message.
There will be 20 seats available for the general public in the grand courtroom where President Yoon’s impeachment trial is held. On the day, only attendees who have applied online in advance will be allowed entry for security reasons.
Considering the number of people waiting to access the site, the competition rate is expected to surpass that of the impeachment trial verdict for former President Park Geun-hye. At that time, 19,096 people applied to attend, and the competition rate was 796 to 1.
