First Foreign Chief Design Officer Appointed at Samsung Electronics
Mauro Porcini to Lead Global Design Organization
Samsung Electronics has recruited a world-renowned industrial designer as its 'first foreign' head of design.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 1st that it has appointed Mauro Porcini as Chief Design Officer (CDO, President) of the Device Experience (DX) division. This is the first time Samsung Electronics has appointed a foreigner as the head of design.
President Mauro Porcini was born in Italy and earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial design from Politecnico di Milano. He began his career as a product designer at Philips and has held CDO positions at 3M and PepsiCo, earning a distinguished reputation in the global design industry.
On the same day, Porcini posted on his LinkedIn, "Samsung is a company I have long admired for its relentless pursuit of innovation, deep commitment to excellence, and remarkable growth trajectory," adding, "Becoming part of this organization is exciting and deeply inspiring."
Samsung Electronics operates global design centers in seven locations worldwide: Seoul, South Korea; San Francisco, USA; London, UK; Milan, Italy; Beijing, China; Noida, India; Tokyo, Japan; and S?o Paulo, Brazil. Porcini is expected to oversee the global design organization.
With Porcini's joining, Samsung Electronics plans to further strengthen its design capabilities across all business areas, including mobile, TV, and home appliances. Previously, Chairman Lee Jae-yong emphasized in a seminar for executives via a video message that "we must nurture and recruit top talent regardless of nationality or gender, even surpassing the management team," and stressed, "If necessary, personnel changes should be made frequently."
