Film Industry Figures Including Kim Seong-su of "Seoul's Spring" and Actor Park Hae-il Call for President Yoon's Impeachment
The film industry released a video statement on the 1st calling for the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol.
On this day, the Film Industry Solidarity for Overcoming the Crisis in the Film Industry unveiled the "Film Industry Video Statement Urging the Impeachment of Yoon Seok-yeol," which featured iconic lines from Korean films that resonate with the impeachment political situation, as well as scenes of citizens participating in protests while awaiting the Constitutional Court's ruling on Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment trial.
The video statement was directed by Choi Hana, who directed the film Abbiyugwhan (2020). Renowned filmmakers such as Jeong Ji-young, Im Soon-rye, Heo Jin-ho, along with Kim Seong-su of Seoul's Spring (2023), Jang Joon-hwan of 1987 (2017), Kim Tae-yong of Wonderland (2024), Jeong Ju-ri of Next, Sohee (2023), Lee Eon-hee of The Law of Love in a Big City (2024), and actors Jeong Jin-young, Park Hae-il, among others, totaling 1,025 film industry professionals, were credited in the ending credits.
The filmmakers stated, "Since the December 3rd insurrection, we have demanded the immediate impeachment of Yoon Seok-yeol to uphold the Constitution of the Republic of Korea," adding, "We have trusted the power of the sovereign people who have protected Korean democracy and patiently awaited the Constitutional Court's decision for several months, hoping for a universal and reasonable judgment to remove Yoon Seok-yeol from office." They continued, "Korean cinema has always been intertwined with the history of Korean democracy," and appealed, "The Constitutional Court must immediately impeach the accused Yoon Seok-yeol and protect the Constitution of the Republic of Korea."
