Service Began on the 29th of Last Month
Over 300 Tourists Visited the Islands Over the Weekend
A new ferry route has opened connecting Nangdo, Sado, Chudo, Sanghwado, and Hahwado in Yeosu.
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 1st that the 99-ton passenger ship "Daeheong Car Ferry 3" operated by Taepyeongyang Shipping Co., Ltd. began service on the Nangdo~Hahwado route on the 29th of last month, bringing over 300 tourists to the islands over the weekend.
The "Daeheong Car Ferry 3" is a car ferry capable of carrying 128 passengers and 11 vehicles, operating three round trips per day from the Nangdo dock.
Previously, Sado could only be accessed via Taepyeongyang Shipping's Yeosu~Dunbyeong route, but frequent cancellations occurred due to the low tonnage of the passenger ships and the risk of high swells between Baegya-do and Sado.
Chudo was only accessible via chartered boats and private vessels as there was no regular passenger ferry service, but with the completion of the dock construction, stable berthing has now become possible.
A Chudo resident said, "Until now, the lack of a regular passenger ferry caused significant transportation inconvenience for both island residents and tourists, but with daily ferry service, we expect the island to become more vibrant," welcoming the inaugural regular ferry service.
Jung Kimyeong, Mayor of Yeosu, stated, "By adding this new route, we have resolved the transportation inconvenience for Chudo residents who previously had no regular service, and now same-day island trips and cargo transport are also possible. Ahead of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, we will continue to improve maritime transportation convenience to attract more visitors."
