Establishing a Rapid and Accurate Information Delivery System in the Event of a Disaster
Boseong County in Jeollanam-do announced that, starting in 2024, it is distributing home receivers for village broadcasting to 12 towns and townships within the county to establish a rapid and accurate information delivery system in the event of a disaster.
The village broadcasting receiver is considered a useful device for the elderly and residents with limited mobility, as it delivers information more effectively than text messages and can be listened to indoors even with the doors closed. It is also gaining attention as a key means of disaster response, as it can quickly convey information in emergency situations.

This year, installation has been completed in all areas of Mundeok-myeon and Deukryang-myeon, as well as in additional households that applied. There are also plans to expand installation to village halls and senior centers, where many residents gather during the day. Additionally, households that were unable to apply last year will be given another opportunity to apply and have receivers installed.
Currently, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety operates a disaster text message system for mobile phones, but certain groups, such as users of older feature phones, often have difficulty receiving these messages. This increases the need for village broadcasting receivers as a universal disaster communication tool to supplement the existing system.
According to a resident satisfaction survey conducted after the completion of receiver installations in 2024, 95% (3,656 out of 3,848 respondents) answered that they were "satisfied," and among them, 76% (2,921 respondents) said they were "very satisfied." The main reasons for satisfaction included "clear broadcast sound quality" (81.5%), "useful replay function" (53%), and "convenient clock function" (52.1%).
County Governor Kim Cheolwoo stated, "For unpredictable disasters such as earthquakes, wildfires, and floods, rapid information delivery is the key to saving lives," adding, "We will continue to expand the distribution of home receivers to meet demand and strive to achieve zero disaster accidents."
