- Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su) will promote a relay tree planting event on April 4th to commemorate the 80th Arbor Day.
The tree planting event was organized to create a pleasant and beautiful street landscape and to widely raise awareness of the need to reduce carbon emissions.
Additionally, in response to recent wildfires across the country causing significant loss of life and property, the event aims to further remind people of the importance of nature and forests through tree planting.
About 350 participants, including Park Gang-su, the mayor of Mapo-gu, Mapo-gu employees, members of professional organizations, and residents, will join together to green various parts of Mapo-gu.
The tree planting event will start at 2 p.m. at Red Road, followed by Yonggang Naru Small Park at 3 p.m., and then at Sangam Wildflower Garden at 4 p.m.
Participants will plant approximately 3,500 trees and flowers, including pine trees, crape myrtle, cornelian cherry, four-season roses, and forsythia?trees and flowers favored most by Koreans?in pots and the ground to create attractive green spaces within the urban area.
To protect forests, on March 24th, about 200 employees and residents visited Maebongsan, Seongmisan, and Wausan mountains in sequence to distribute wildfire prevention materials and urge hikers for active cooperation.
Also, since January 24th, a wildfire prevention task force has been established and the wildfire prevention system has been strengthened until May 15th.
Park Gang-su, mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “The Arbor Day event is not just a simple event but a very valuable act of planting hope and prosperity for our future.” He added, “We ask for much interest and participation in the tree planting event, and Mapo-gu will continue to take the lead in creating a nature-friendly environment by planting trees and flowers in every corner of the city.”
