Promoting the Development and Revitalization of School Sports
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education held a launching ceremony for the new physical education teacher mentoring program, 'Step Up!', on May 31 to strengthen the field adaptation capabilities of new physical education teachers for the 2025 academic year.
This mentoring program targets 30 mentor teachers (including administrators and educational professionals) with more than five years of experience and 63 newly appointed physical education teachers for national, public, and private schools in the 2025 academic year.
The goal is to enhance the field adaptation capabilities of new physical education teachers by passing on the know-how of mentor teachers in educational activities and overall school life, as well as to promote the development and revitalization of school sports in Busan.
Customized activities will be conducted to strengthen the competencies of newly appointed physical education teachers, including: ▲Physical education classes and assessment ▲School sports administration (school sports club activities, overall management of school sports teams) ▲Student guidance ▲Practical training, and more.
Each mentor teacher will be matched with 2 to 3 new physical education teachers to provide continuous and regular individualized mentoring covering all stages of teaching and student guidance.
Mentor teachers and new teachers will meet face-to-face at school 1 to 2 times a month for individual mentoring on school sports administration, and practical training sessions will also be held twice a month to strengthen the practical skills of new teachers.
Yoo Gukjong, Director of Character, Physical Education, and School Meals at the Office of Education, stated, "Through the activities of the new physical education teacher mentoring program 'Step Up!', we hope to improve the field adaptation skills of new physical education teachers and guide them in all aspects of school life," adding, "We ask all members to make efforts for the development of Busan school sports and the revitalization of sports."
