April 3, 12 p.m. at the Museum Lawn: Department of Korean Music Opens with "Colored by the Melodies of Spring"
Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) announced that the College of Arts will present performances in music, dance, and more at the '2025 Spring Semester PNU Thursday Art' event, to be held over two months from April 3 to June 5 at the university museum's outdoor lawn and Gaon Hall.
'PNU Thursday Art' is an art performance program that Pusan National University launched in 2008 to provide opportunities for cultural and artistic enjoyment to university members and nearby residents. The program was unfortunately suspended for five years due to the unavoidable circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, but it is being revived this year, drawing much attention and anticipation.
This year's revived PNU Thursday Art, under the subtitle 'Come to the Spring Garden,' will be held every Thursday at noon for one hour, a total of seven times, throughout April, May, and the first week of June. Students from the university's Department of Korean Music, Department of Dance, Department of Music, and Department of Design, along with local artists, will participate to present a variety of performances.
The first performance will take place at noon on April 3. Under the theme 'Colored by the Melodies of Spring,' performances will reinterpret Joseon-era music with a modern sensibility and arrange contemporary music in the style of Joseon music.
Audiences can enjoy performances such as 'Flower of K' by Yang Bang-ean, played on daegeum, haegeum, geomungo, and keyboard, 'Where the Wind Blows' by Kim Kwangseok, 'Nangamhane' by the gugak fusion group Project Lak, and a track from singer IU's special mini album 'Pieces.'
Until June 5, every Thursday will feature a variety of performances, including △Bloom (Janggu Dance, Pungnyu Buk Dance, etc.) △Spring Waltz (String Quartet, Vocal) △Melodies Carried by the Spring Breeze (Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Vocal) △Youth, Body, and Climax (Dance) △Stage on Cheorat-! (Korean Music) △Animation screenings, and more.
Kwon Eunyoung (Professor, Department of Korean Music), Dean of the College of Arts at Pusan National University, said, "PNU Thursday Art will serve as a stepping stone to establish this area, centered on Pusan National University, as a 'hub of youth culture.' I hope citizens of Busan and young people will enjoy the music and share in the vibrancy and energy."
