Gwangju Dong-gu (District Mayor Lim Taek) announced on the 1st that it will conduct intensive crackdowns and preventive publicity on illegal development activities in order to preserve the natural environment within the Green Belt and prevent the disorderly expansion of the city.
The area of the Green Belt in Dong-gu is 26.88㎢, and within this zone, activities such as construction of buildings, installation of structures, alteration of landforms, storage of goods, and felling of bamboo or trees are prohibited without permission.
To prevent illegal activities that may occur due to residents' lack of awareness about illegal acts within the Green Belt, the district plans to put up publicity banners, distribute informational leaflets, and intensively conduct on-site guidance. The publicity banners will be made from eco-friendly materials in line with the environmental protection purpose of the Green Belt.
Illegal activities detected through on-site guidance will be subject to corrective orders such as restoration to the original state. If these orders are not followed, strong administrative actions such as the imposition of compulsory fines and reports to judicial authorities will be taken in accordance with relevant laws.
Lim Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "As illegal activities within the Green Belt have recently increased, we will put up publicity banners and distribute informational leaflets to preserve the natural environment and prevent illegal acts."
