Focus on Operating Chungnam-Style Future Curriculum
and Building Educational Environments
The Chungnam Office of Education announced on the 1st that it has submitted the first supplementary budget plan for 2025 to the provincial council, amounting to 4.9834 trillion won, which is an increase of 323.5 billion won (6.9%) compared to the original budget of 4.6599 trillion won.
For the first supplementary budget, most of the revenue comes from transfers from the central government and local governments, totaling 309.8 billion won (96%), with the remainder consisting of 4.9 billion won in self-generated revenue, 6.1 billion won in other income, and 2.7 billion won in fund transfers.
The supplementary budget focuses on operating the Chungnam-style future curriculum and building educational environments, strengthening teacher and student initiative and responsible education, and creating a healthy and safe educational environment.
Key projects include 10.3 billion won to support future-oriented curricula, 1.3 billion won for operating special educational internationalization zones, 6.1 billion won for the Artificial Intelligence Education Experience Center, and 10.2 billion won for the construction of Buyeo Library, totaling 29.2 billion won for creating future educational spaces.
Additionally, 11.9 billion won is allocated for strengthening AI teaching and learning capabilities, 12.8 billion won for establishing a systematic foundation for future teaching and learning for teachers, 7.8 billion won for operating customized Neulbom Classroom programs, 8.2 billion won to support Chungnam-style Neulbom Schools, 11.9 billion won for pilot operations of special educational development zones, and 46.7 billion won for supporting merged schools to foster appropriately sized schools.
Furthermore, 67.8 billion won is allocated for expanding student placement facilities, such as establishing new schools and expanding classrooms to alleviate overcrowded classes, and 14.9 billion won is set aside for seismic reinforcement, performance evaluations, and improvement of disaster-prone facilities to ensure student safety and disaster prevention, focusing on creating a healthy and safe educational environment.
Kim Ji-cheol, Superintendent of the Chungnam Office of Education, said, "Since most of the revenue comes from educational grants, which are highly volatile depending on the economic situation, stable educational finance is uncertain. Therefore, we have minimized facility investments and maximized budget allocation for future education, student safety, and guaranteeing learning rights." He added, "We will do our best to ensure swift budget execution through close communication with the provincial council."
Meanwhile, the supplementary budget plan submitted by the Chungnam Office of Education will be reviewed at the 358th extraordinary session of the Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Council, which will begin on the 8th.
