Busan City Launches Customized Industrial Accident Prevention Support with Joint Managers

Establishing Safety and Health Management Systems
for Small Workplaces with Fewer Than 50 Employees

"We also provide customized support for industrial accident prevention projects."

The city of Busan (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) announced on the 1st that it will implement a customized support project for industrial accident prevention to strengthen industrial safety and prevent accidents at small workplaces with fewer than 50 employees.

The customized support project for industrial accident prevention is designed to help small businesses, which are facing difficulties in fulfilling their safety and health obligations due to the expansion of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act to workplaces with fewer than 50 employees, establish a safety and health management system. This project consists of support for industrial safety and health certification and support for the operation of joint safety managers.

The industrial safety and health certification support project aims to assist companies in newly acquiring certifications for safety and health management systems such as 'ISO 45001' and 'KOSHA-MS.'

With the implementation of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, corporate responsibility and interest in industrial safety have increased. The project supports small businesses in obtaining credible industrial safety and health certifications, thereby helping to create safe and healthy workplaces.

Eligible applicants are companies located in Busan with fewer than 50 employees and enrolled in industrial accident insurance. Each company can receive up to 3 million KRW in consulting and audit fees for certification acquisition. Applications can be submitted via email or in person at Busan Technopark from the 1st to April 16th.

Busan Technopark will select approximately 17 companies through an adequacy review and notify the results on April 28th.

The joint safety manager operation support project is the first local government initiative to provide additional municipal funding to organizations selected for the government's joint safety manager support project.

Since last year, the government has supported associations and organizations in jointly managing safety at small workplaces by subsidizing up to 80% of total operating costs, with a monthly limit of 2.5 million KRW per hire for joint safety manager operations.

To maximize the effectiveness of government policy and create jobs, Busan city plans to provide additional municipal funding of up to 3.75 million KRW per person per year, supporting around 30 people, separate from the national subsidy, to encourage more local organizations to participate in this project.

Eligibility is limited to organizations selected for the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency's 2025 joint safety manager support project. Applications can also be submitted via email or in person at Busan Technopark from the 1st. However, applications will close once the budget is exhausted. Recipients will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis (based on application submission).

The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency is currently accepting applications for the third round of the joint safety manager support project from March 31st until 5:00 PM on May 30th, and will select recipients each month.

Interested organizations can contact or apply to the Busan Regional Headquarters of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency. If selected as a recipient, they can apply for the 2025 joint safety manager operation support project to receive additional municipal funding.

Kim Bongcheol, Director of Digital Economy at Busan City, stated, "We hope this support project will provide practical help in establishing systematic safety and health management systems at small workplaces and preventing industrial accidents. We will continue to do our best to make Busan a city where the daily safety of working citizens is guaranteed."
