Tokyo Electron (TEL) Korea, a semiconductor manufacturing equipment company, announced on the 1st that CEO Won Je-hyung has been promoted to chairman, and Vice President Noh Tae-woo has been appointed as the new CEO.
Chairman Won Je-hyung earned his Ph.D. in Wide-Bandgap Semiconductor Physics from Osaka University in Japan. After holding various positions in the semiconductor industry, he has served as CEO since July 2017. During his tenure, he expanded research and development (R&D) bases with the goal of quickly responding to customer demands at close proximity and is recognized for significantly contributing to the development of excellent process technologies.
Under his leadership, the number of TEL Korea employees increased from about 800 to over 2,000, and sales, which were around 800 billion KRW, exceeded 1.4 trillion KRW last year. In October of last year, the company also opened 'TEL Technology Center Korea-2,' the largest R&D base in Korea.
New CEO Noh Tae-woo joined TEL Korea in 1994 and has accumulated over 30 years of experience in areas such as process and sales. From 2019, he oversaw new business and the Bal-an plant (Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province) for four years. After being promoted to vice president in 2023, he demonstrated management expertise and led the company's growth.
CEO and Chairman Won Je-hyung stated, "As the leader of a company at the forefront of Korea's semiconductor equipment industry, I will continue to strive for technological innovation while also focusing on industry-academia cooperation and discovering outstanding local talent."
