Samsung Electronics Unveils Next-Level Cinema LED 'Onyx'

First in the Industry to Receive DCI Standard Certification
DCI-P3 100%... Accurate Color and Contrast Ratio

Samsung Electronics unveiled its new cinema light-emitting diode (LED) screen, 'Onyx,' at CinemaCon 2025, the world's largest film industry convention held in Las Vegas, USA.

According to Samsung Electronics on the 1st, Onyx is a cinema LED screen exclusively for theaters, first introduced globally in 2017, boasting excellent image quality and reliability. It is the world's first movie screen, not a projector, to receive standard certification from the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI).

At CinemaCon 2025, Samsung Electronics presented the future of theaters with innovative displays including the latest cinema display technology Onyx and the 'Samsung Color ePaper.'

Jung Hoon, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business Division, said, "Since Samsung Electronics first introduced the world's first cinema LED screen, the cinema industry has been moving toward a new paradigm. Onyx will become the new standard for cinema screens aiming for the ultimate immersion experience that can only be experienced in theaters."

Samsung Electronics explained that the cinema LED Onyx has evolved to a new level in terms of ▲overwhelming image quality ▲screen scalability ▲compatibility with various media servers. The new product features 4K resolution, up to 4K 120Hz frame rate, 100% accurate color of DCI-P3, overwhelming contrast ratio, and deep black levels. DCI-P3 is a color space for digital cinema defined by DCI, also known as the 'cinema color gamut.'

Additionally, through HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology, it delivers detailed contrast expression and realistic images with brightness up to 300 nits. This is about six times higher than conventional projector types. It is also possible to screen various content such as concerts and sports events in high ambient light environments.

Samsung Electronics offers the industry's first 10-year long-term quality warranty program for cinema LEDs. The standard warranty period of 3 years can be extended up to 10 years. The 'Auto Calibration Solution,' which uniformly adjusts the color of each module during installation and maintenance, provides optimal image quality.

Onyx is compatible with various media servers including Dolby. It also supports various cinema audio systems such as Harman's 'JBL Surround Technology,' Dolby Atmos, and Meyer Sound to create an optimal sound environment.
