A Space for Teachers to Learn Opens in Gwangju

Gwangju Office of Education Opens 'Gyosaseongjangmaru'
A New Hub for Teacher Research, Communication, and Creativity

"Teachers who teach students must also continue to learn."

A dedicated space where teachers can learn from each other and grow through classes and research, called 'Gyosaseongjangmaru', has opened in Gwangju.

The Gwangju Office of Education held the opening ceremony for 'Gyosaseongjangmaru' on the 31st at the site of the former Gyeongyang Elementary School and officially began its operation. The ceremony was attended by Lee Jeongseon, Superintendent of Gwangju Office of Education, Moon In, Mayor of Buk-gu, and representatives of teachers. The event included the screening of a promotional video produced by the teachers' research group, a performance by a teacher vocal team, and a celebratory performance.

Gyosaseongjangmaru is a learning and creative space exclusively for teachers, where they can share class cases and conduct joint research. The Office of Education designed the space so that teachers can freely interact and engage in practice-centered educational activities outside of school.

The three-story building is divided by function. ▲The first floor, 'Gyoyuknanummaru', is a space for teachers' community activities. ▲On the second floor, there are 'Sueopsotongsil' and 'Sueopgonggamsil', which can be used for various training sessions and meetings. ▲The third floor houses 'Gamseongmaru' and 'Changjakmaru', where teachers can engage in theater, community games, musical instrument performances, and content production.

Local teachers have long faced difficulties due to a lack of space, even when they wanted to continue research activities with teachers from other schools. Jo Eunhee, a teacher belonging to a teachers' research group, said, "Even though I wanted to conduct research and share classes together, I was always disappointed by the lack of space. Now, I am excited because I feel like I can try various new things."

Superintendent Lee said, "To nurture students' potential, teachers must first be able to grow as educators," and added, "I hope Gyosaseongjangmaru becomes a strong foundation that supports teachers' challenges and practical efforts."
