At a regular briefing that morning, Jeon Ha-gyu, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, was asked about the top priority mission of the U.S. Forces Korea and replied, “The greatest role of the U.S. Forces Korea is to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and that remains unchanged.”

Earlier, the Washington Post (WP) reported that U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth distributed a document called the "Interim National Defense Strategy Guidance" around mid-month, stating that the United States will prioritize homeland defense and have allies in Europe, the Middle East, and East Asia take on roles in deterring threats from Russia, Iran, North Korea, and others.

Regarding this, spokesperson Jeon emphasized, “This is not an official position or confirmed matter from the U.S. Department of Defense,” adding, “Our military maintains a strong combined defense posture based on the ROK-U.S. alliance, preparing for various situations.”
