Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju is accelerating its efforts to implement policies for foreign residents.

Gwangsan-gu recently announced on the 31st that it held a meeting of the 2025 Policy Committee for Supporting Foreign Residents in the district office conference room to discuss policy directions for the stable settlement and human rights promotion of migrants.

At the recent 'Foreign Resident Support Policy Committee' meeting held at Gwangsan District Office, committee members are reviewing and sharing opinions on this year's implementation plans. Provided by Gwangju Gwangsan District Office

This meeting was organized to review the achievements of the dedicated department for foreign residents over the past year and to share the basic and detailed implementation plans for this year. The policy committee is comprised of officials from 14 related organizations, including the Gwangju Immigration Office, Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Office, and Gwangsan Police Station.

At the meeting, the basic direction was set as "Realizing Coexistence in Gwangsan" based on cultural exchange and mutual understanding. The key points include: ▲Respect for human rights and cultural diversity ▲Customized administrative services for residents' needs ▲Creation of a Koryoin historical and cultural village.

Gwangsan-gu plans to continue existing policies such as emergency support for foreign residents and the Gwangsan World Night Market, while this year focusing on expanding the social foundation of the Koryoin village through projects such as a Koryoin relics cyber exhibition hall, themed village tour courses, and training of village interpreters.

During the meeting, various opinions based on field experience were also presented. Committee members proposed policies to strengthen cooperation between agencies and to solve issues related to administrative accessibility and living infrastructure faced by migrants in the field. Related organizations also shared their projects for this year and explored possibilities for collaboration.

Park Byungkyu, the head of the district office, said, "We will ensure that foreign residents can stand together as members of the local community, not as outsiders," and added, "We will actively reflect the results of the policy committee's discussions in our policies."
