Gwangju City announced on the 30th that it conducted a 'Joint Campaign for the Prevention of Large-Scale Spring Wildfires' targeting visitors at the Jeungsimsa District of Mudeungsan National Park on the 29th.

This campaign was organized to raise awareness of wildfire risks, as large-scale wildfires have been occurring nationwide and the national wildfire disaster crisis alert has been raised to the 'Severe' level.

The campaign, conducted jointly with Dong-gu, Buk-gu, and the Mudeungsan National Park Office, involved distributing promotional materials to visitors and providing guidance on wildfire prevention rules and safety procedures in case of a wildfire.

Additionally, on-site training was provided for the government wildfire response team, who would be deployed in the event of a wildfire. An instructor from the Wildfire Prevention Technology Association was invited to teach the use of wildfire suppression equipment such as backpack pumps, fire rakes, and shovels.

Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs Ko Gwangwan stated, "Most wildfires in the Gwangju area are caused by carelessness of hikers or illegal burning of agricultural byproducts," and urged, "To prevent wildfires, visitors should refrain from hiking in high-risk areas and never carry fire sources such as lighters."

The city has proactively activated the Regional Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters since the 27th to prevent and control wildfires, and is focusing on wildfire prevention activities and initial response by deploying specialized wildfire prevention and suppression personnel to vulnerable areas and cracking down on illegal burning.

In addition, using special grants secured from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the city is expanding wildfire suppression equipment such as purchasing thermal imaging drones, and strengthening publicity activities by broadcasting wildfire prevention videos through newspapers, TV, public transportation, and large electronic billboards.
