World-renowned quartets 'Eben·Belcea' visit Korea consecutively... Focus on Beethoven string quartets

At Lotte Concert Hall on April 3rd and 4th

The world-renowned string quartets Eben Quartet and Belcea Quartet will consecutively perform in Korea at Lotte Concert Hall on April 3rd and 4th.

This is part of the 'World String Quartet Series' organized by the concert planning company Mok Production. Previously, on the 8th, the Novus Quartet presented the first stage of the World String Quartet Series, and following Abel and Belcea, the series will conclude with the Hagen Quartet's Korea performance on November 9th.

Eben and Belcea plan to perform a large number of Beethoven's string quartet works. Among the seven pieces performed by the two quartets over two days, four are Beethoven string quartets. Additionally, two works by Britten and one by Mozart will be performed. Beethoven left 16 string quartets and one Grosse Fuge for string quartet.

In particular, Eben Quartet selected three Beethoven works out of the four pieces they will perform on the 3rd. They will open with Beethoven's String Quartet No. 1, followed by Beethoven's String Quartet No. 13 and the Grosse Fuge for string quartet in the second half. They will also add Britten's Three Divertimenti for string quartet.

The Belcea Quartet will perform Mozart's String Quartet No. 20 'Hoffmeister' and Britten's String Quartet No. 3, and conclude with Beethoven's String Quartet No. 9 as the final piece.

Both Eben and Belcea Quartets are returning to Korea after six years.

The Eben Quartet is a French chamber ensemble that won the 2004 ARD International Music Competition.

The Belcea Quartet was formed in 1994 and is celebrating its 30th anniversary. For this occasion, they have selected works by Mozart, Britten, and Beethoven that they performed at their formation to reflect on the significance of their 30th anniversary. They served as the resident ensemble at the Vienna Konzerthaus from 2010 to 2021 and also at the Berlin Pierre Boulez Saal from 2017 to 2020. They have recorded the complete string quartets of Bart?k, Beethoven, Brahms, and Britten, and have received prestigious recording awards such as the Gramophone Award, Diapason d'Or, and Echo Klassik Award.

The Belcea Quartet and Eben Quartet have maintained a special relationship since the 2021?2022 season, collaborating in the Vienna Konzerthaus string quartet series and touring together with an octet in the 2022?2023 season. The two quartets are currently on an octet Asia tour this season and will visit Korea as part of this tour.
