Yeongdeungpo-gu Removes Utility Poles Causing Pedestrian Obstruction and Safety Concerns

Communication Pole Removed Across from Daerim 1-dong Community Service Center on March 21
Full-scale Maintenance of Utility and Communication Poles to Begin This Year... Four Poles Targeted for Removal

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced on the 21st that it has removed a utility pole located in the middle of the sidewalk, which obstructed pedestrian traffic and posed a significant safety hazard.

On March 21, the removal work of the utility pole located in the center of the sidewalk opposite Daerim 1-dong Community Service Center was carried out. The utility pole, which had been difficult to maintain due to complex issues such as cost burdens, was finally removed.

Utility poles (communication poles, electric poles) located on sidewalks or side streets obstruct pedestrian pathways and cause inconvenience. The risk of safety accidents is especially higher on rainy days due to limited visibility caused by umbrellas.

So far, the district has been able to smoothly complete the removal of the utility pole after several discussions with Korea Electric Power Corporation and communication service providers to ensure residents' safety.

This year, the district secured 30 million won through a supplementary budget to actively promote the maintenance of utility poles and plans to remove four urgently needed poles.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “As a result of active consultations with communication service providers to ensure residents' safety and resolve inconveniences, we were able to remove the utility pole. We will continue to actively reflect residents' voices and work to eliminate daily inconveniences.”
