"Building a Bio-Specialized Hub City in the Southern Coastal Belt"
Suncheon City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 28th that it had completed the purchase of the former Seungju County Office site on the 26th, officially launching its efforts to foster the "Green Bio Industry," a new growth engine that applies engineering technology to agricultural resources.
As the ecological capital of Korea, the city plans to actively utilize its eco-friendly image and abundant agricultural bioresources, leveraging the research capabilities of the Bio Healthcare Research Center and Fermentation Center. By 2027, a total project budget of 62 billion KRW will be invested to establish a Bio Knowledge Industry Center and product manufacturing facilities, laying the foundation for the industrialization of a core growth engine that will secure Suncheon's future.
Through this initiative, the area around the former Seungju County Office is expected to be reborn as a hub for high value-added green bio industries utilizing local agricultural bioresources.
The city aims to establish a comprehensive industrial life-cycle platform encompassing everything from bio-material development to product manufacturing, distribution and export support, R&D assistance for related research institutions and resident companies, as well as tourism and experience-based theme parks, transforming itself into the mecca of the "K-Green Bio Industry."
Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu stated, "Starting with this land acquisition, we will accelerate efforts to develop Suncheon as a bio-conversion and bio-specialized hub city in the southern coastal belt, ensuring that it becomes a leading city in Korea's green bio industry."
