Enhancing Access to Health, Cultural, and Administrative Services
Seo-gu District of Gwangju (District Mayor Kim Ikang) will construct the 'Yudeok-dong Multipurpose Center' to enhance local residents' access to health, cultural, and administrative services.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on the 28th at the site of the former post office in Yudeok-dong, attended by Seo-gu District Mayor Kim Ikang, Gwangju Metropolitan City Mayor Kang Gijung, National Assembly member Cho Incheol, city and district council members, and about 100 residents.

Yudeok-dong has so far faced difficulties in providing field-centered administrative services, as both the Health Lifestyle Support Center and the Administrative Welfare Center were located far from residential areas, and opportunities to enjoy cultural activities have been limited due to a lack of cultural facilities.
To solve these issues, Seo-gu secured 11.3 billion KRW in 2021 through the Living SOC Complex Project, demolished the Yuchon-dong post office building, and began constructing the multipurpose center.
By the end of last year, the district completed all necessary administrative procedures, including basic and detailed design, preliminary certification for barrier-free design (BF), public building construction consultation, and implementation plan approval, and is now starting full-scale construction.
The multipurpose center will have one basement floor and three above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 1,314 square meters, and is scheduled for completion in the first half of next year. The basement and first floor will house a community culture center and an on-site civil service office, allowing residents to conveniently access both cultural and administrative services in one place.
The second and third floors will be dedicated to the Health Lifestyle Support Center, offering a variety of services from health consultations to management programs, thereby further improving accessibility for residents.
Seo-gu District Mayor Kim Ikang said, "The Yudeok-dong Multipurpose Center will become a key hub where residents can enjoy health, cultural, and administrative services closer to home," adding, "We will continue to strengthen field administration and actively work to improve the quality of life for our residents."
