A Total of 221 Pieces of Equipment and 2,275 Personnel Deployed
Over 80% of Power Restored
Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province has mobilized a total of 221 pieces of equipment and 2,275 personnel on the fourth day of the Uiseong wildfire on the 28th, making an all-out effort to contain the blaze.
Despite the anticipated rainfall being very minimal at less than 4mm, the wildfire containment rate in Yeongdeok County has shown significant improvement, rising from 10% the previous day to 65% as of 8 a.m. on the 28th, according to the Korea Forest Service, thanks to a full-scale firefighting operation utilizing all available resources.
In areas where wildfire damage was severe enough to cut off electricity and communications, restoration efforts such as main and branch line repairs have led to a recovery rate of over 80%. Emergency restoration work for communications is also ongoing.
Accordingly, Yeongdeok County plans to make a final push on the fourth day of the wildfire, aiming to completely eliminate any remaining embers by deploying 15 helicopters, 14 fire trucks, 13 special vehicles, and mobilizing 324 public officials, 275 soldiers, 200 firefighters and police officers, and 168 personnel from private organizations and groups.
County Governor Kim Kwangyeol stated, "Although our staff and personnel from cooperating agencies are exhausted from the emergency shifts and firefighting operations that have continued for four days, we know all too well that the situation is not over until every ember is extinguished. We are determined to give everything we have to resolve this before the weekend," adding, "After putting an end to the wildfire situation over the weekend, we will promptly conduct damage assessments and provide support and restoration to help our residents quickly return to their precious daily lives."
