Gangbuk-gu Responds Promptly to Andong Wildfire Crisis

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced on the 28th that it urgently provided relief supplies to the disaster victims in Andong City, Gyeongsangbuk-do, which recently suffered large-scale wildfire damage, on the 27th.


The wildfire started on the 22nd in Uiseong-gun, Gyeongbuk, and spread rapidly to nearby cities and counties such as Cheongsong and Andong due to strong winds, causing extensive damage. The affected wildfire area has reached 36,000 hectares.

In particular, in Andong City, the wildfire quickly spread close to the city center, forcing many residents to evacuate urgently and lose their homes. Accordingly, Gangbuk-gu promptly delivered relief supplies requested by Andong City, including 400 pieces of underwear, to support the swift return of the affected residents to their daily lives.


Mayor Lee Soon-hee expressed, "I offer my deepest condolences to the citizens of Andong who have lost their precious homes due to the wildfire. Although it is a small gesture, I hope it provides practical help during this difficult time, and I pray for the speedy restoration of peaceful daily life."


Meanwhile, as wildfire damage has spread to Ulsan, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam regions, the district has decided to implement a ‘special disaster relief leave’ for Gangbuk-gu public officials or their families who have been affected. The related guidelines have been communicated to all departments, and active cooperation has been requested so that eligible officials can apply for and use the leave.
