Flammable substances were found spread on a mountain in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
According to the Hwaseong Western Police Station on the 27th, a report was received around 2:10 PM from the summit of Taehaengsan in Bibong-myeon, Hwaseong-si, stating that there was a "smell of thinner." The police responded to a cooperation request from the fire department and arrived at the scene, where they discovered substances presumed to be waste oil spread in various places on the summit deck. A plastic oil container, believed to have held the substance, was also found at the site.
The police obtained statements from hikers and others indicating that the substance had been scattered there for several days. They are currently tracking suspects using nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
