Chungnam Province will begin vaccinating cattle against lumpy skin disease as a preemptive measure starting next month.
According to the province on the 27th, this vaccination campaign aims to secure immunity against lumpy skin disease before the vector insects become active, targeting approximately 481,000 cattle across 11,121 farms in the province.
From April 1 to 14, farms will be given a two-week period to self-administer the vaccine. For small-scale farms with fewer than 50 cattle that may have difficulty with self-vaccination, the province will dispatch veterinarians to assist with vaccination until the 30th.
In particular, calves less than three months old and pregnant cows in late gestation, who are at higher risk of miscarriage, will be managed separately by city and county authorities for additional vaccination.
The vaccine will be provided free of charge regardless of herd size, and monitoring tests will be conducted after vaccination to confirm antibody formation.
Lee Jeongsam, Director of the Provincial Livestock and Animal Health Bureau, stated, "The most reliable way to protect livestock farms from disaster-type animal infectious diseases is thorough vaccination," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure that all cattle in the province develop sufficient antibodies."
