Yangsan Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor Intensifies Supervision and Guidance to Prevent Falls at New Industrial Complex Construction Sites

The Yangsan Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor (Branch Manager Kwon Kuhyung) and the Eastern Gyeongnam Branch of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (Branch Manager Ahn Wonhan) will conduct intensive patrol inspections and supervision on construction sites of newly established industrial complexes in the region starting April 1.

Large-scale new industrial and residential complexes such as the Gimhae Daedong Advanced General Industrial Complex and the Sasong Residential District are currently undergoing active construction of new factories and neighborhood living facilities. During processes such as steel frame construction, the risk of fall accidents is high, and the frequent use of heavy construction equipment such as aerial work platforms and mobile cranes increases the risk of industrial accidents related to equipment use.

In addition, most of these sites are small to medium-sized, often lacking on-site supervisors and relatively insufficient in safety education, making it difficult to expect autonomous safety management at the sites.

The Yangsan Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, together with the Eastern Gyeongnam Branch of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, plans to conduct construction safety patrol inspections at these sites, with a focus on guiding the use of safety harnesses and helmets during high-place work and the installation of fall protection nets during steel frame assembly.

Construction sites that do not comply with on-site inspections, show little willingness to improve, or repeatedly violate the law will be subject to industrial safety and health supervision, and strict legal action will be taken if violations are found.

In May, safety education will also be provided to construction companies and related parties, including accident case studies and accident prevention measures.

Kwon Kuhyung, Branch Manager, stated, "More than half of fatal accidents at construction sites are caused by falls," and added, "Checking for risk factors before work and making efforts to improve them is the most basic and important safety rule to prevent fall accidents, so I urge both labor and management to remain vigilant."
