Mayor Shin stated, "We expect the Sogang-Pangyo Digital Innovation Campus to play a crucial role in leading Seongnam City as a pioneering city in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution," adding, "We will continue to achieve ongoing innovation through close cooperation with educational institutions and companies."
He further emphasized, "The Sogang-Pangyo Digital Innovation Campus will become a cradle for training master's and doctoral level experts in the system semiconductor field and will grow together with the local community through practical educational programs."
At the ceremony, Sogang University President Shim Jonghyuk and representatives from four companies belonging to the Widen Consortium?Motrex, Inox Advanced Materials, Estrafic, and YMC?attended and signed a move-in business agreement (MOU).
Sogang University will operate the campus on the 3rd to 6th floors of Widen Tower, built by the Widen Consortium in Geumto-dong (410-85), for the next 10 years, establishing an advanced industry-academia cooperation network for research and education in the fields of system semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI).
Previously, in April last year, Seongnam City signed a business agreement (MOU) with Sogang University to foster customized talent development and build a cooperative system in the advanced industry sector.
The Sogang-Pangyo Digital Innovation Campus, set to open in June, will house startups, industry-academia joint research labs, contract departments, and startup support groups, and plans to operate a global semiconductor design expert course in connection with Seongnam City's 'Fabless Academy Support Project.'
Accordingly, the Sogang-Pangyo Digital Innovation Campus is expected to establish itself as a hub for industry-academia cooperation beyond a simple research space, fostering an innovative R&D and startup ecosystem through joint research and development collaboration among leading venture companies and universities.
Seongnam City plans to continuously promote the establishment of an advanced industrial ecosystem by strengthening cooperation with major educational institutions including Sogang University, KAIST, Sungkyunkwan University, Gachon University, and Polytechnic University. In particular, it aims to expand various education and research support projects to nurture globally competitive talent in the fields of system semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
