Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Chung-woo) announced on the 27th that since 2021, it has been providing the "Yeoju City Dad Parental Leave Incentive" to male employees taking parental leave. With Gyeonggi Province set to implement the same program starting in 2025, the city has revised its ordinance to partially change the eligibility criteria and standards.
The revised "Dad Parental Leave Incentive" provides 300,000 KRW per month for up to 5 months to parental leave takers who have a household median income at or below 150% and have taken leave for at least 3 months. The total amount for 5 months is paid in a lump sum after the parental leave ends. Applications can be made through Gyeonggi Minwon 24, and must be submitted from 3 months after the start of parental leave up to 12 months after the leave ends.
This change applies to parental leave starting on or after March 31, 2025, the ordinance enforcement date, while those who began parental leave before March 30, 2025, will be subject to the previous program standards.
