Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) announced on the 27th that it held the opening ceremony for the on-site experiential resource circulation education and the opening ceremony of the promotional hall at the Yangpyeong Resource Circulation Center on the 26th.

The Yangpyeong Resource Circulation Center is a facility where all the waste from Yangpyeong is collected. Through resource circulation education, it informs local residents about the importance of resource recycling and conveys that the Yangpyeong Resource Circulation Center plays a necessary role in the local community.

Thirty-six “Our Neighborhood Recycling Guardians” from Gang-sang, Gang-ha, Okcheon, and Gaegun-myeon attended the opening ceremony of this education. They work at the living waste collection facilities and are responsible for guiding and promoting proper waste separation. The education consisted of theoretical lessons on correct waste separation and resource circulation, followed by a direct tour of the living waste transfer station, landfill, sorting facility, and Styrofoam melting facility.

One recycling guardian who attended the education said, “While working at the collection facility, I was always curious about where the waste goes. After seeing it firsthand today, I feel the need to manage it more thoroughly.” He added, “Especially after seeing the workers at the sorting facility, I realized once again how important it is to practice proper waste separation at home.”

Jeon Jin-seon, Governor of Yangpyeong-gun, said, “Our Neighborhood Recycling Guardians are not only protecting our neighborhood but also playing a role in protecting our planet. I hope you take pride in your work.”

Along with the education opening ceremony, the promotional hall opening ceremony was also held on the same day.

The promotional hall is a space designed to help understand the role and history of the Yangpyeong Resource Circulation Center and resource circulation. The 18-pyeong (approximately 59.5 square meters) exhibition space practiced resource circulation from its spatial composition. All display stands were made using eco-friendly paper boards called “Honeycomb Board,” which are 100% recyclable, and the ink used for printing was eco-friendly ink to minimize environmental impact.

The promotional hall consists of five sections: a space to check how waste generated in Yangpyeong-gun is processed, a space containing the history and introduction of the Yangpyeong Resource Circulation Center, a space guiding proper waste separation methods, a waste separation experience space, and a resource circulation space where visitors can see how recycled items become resources again.

Additionally, the promotional hall has a special guide named “Kkapyeong.” “Kkapyeong” is a character inspired by the crows of the Yangpyeong (Jipyeong) area. It was chosen as the promotional hall’s guide character based on the idea that crows act as “nature’s cleaners” by tidying up the streets.

Song Hye-sook, Head of the Cleaning Department, said, “Since the promotional hall was designed to practice resource circulation from the planning stage, we hope that everyone who visits the Yangpyeong Resource Circulation Center will naturally understand the center’s role and goals through the promotional hall.” She added, “We look forward to many visitors coming to directly experience the meaning of resource circulation.”

Meanwhile, the promotional hall will be operated together with the on-site experiential resource circulation education to enhance the quality of education. The on-site experiential resource circulation education will be held every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. It will be available for students, groups, and residents.
