Fireworks Show Canceled Due to Nationwide Wildfires
Moment of Silence to Be Observed Before Official Events
The Jinhae Gunhangje Cherry Blossom Festival, known nationwide as a major celebration, will be scaled down due to recent wildfires across the country.
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 27th that the 63rd Jinhae Gunhangje, originally scheduled to be held from the 29th, will be held on a reduced scale due to the impact of wildfires occurring nationwide.
The city decided to hold the event in a quieter and more subdued atmosphere than usual, expressing condolences to the victims and considering public sentiment, as large-scale wildfire damage has occurred in nearby areas such as Sancheong-gun, Hadong-gun, and the Gyeongbuk region.
As a result, the "Yi Chungmugong Victory Memorial Fireworks Show," which was originally scheduled to take place at Jinhaeru on April 2, has been canceled, and a moment of silence will be observed before the official events to pay tribute to the victims.
However, for the convenience and safety of visitors coming to see the cherry blossoms in Jinhae and at the festival venues, the festival events, including the opening ceremony, will be held from the 28th to April 6th.
A Changwon city official stated, "We have been preparing for the Jinhae Gunhangje for several months, and considering practical issues such as revitalizing the local economy, it is difficult to completely cancel the festival. Instead, we will cancel the fireworks festival and proceed overall in a solemn and reverent atmosphere," adding, "We will do our best to uphold the spirit of national defense embodied by Admiral Yi Sunshin, the spirit of the Jinhae Gunhangje, to overcome the national crisis and make this an event where citizens and the people become one."
