Jo Seong-hyun PD, who was sent to prosecution on charges of inserting nude videos of Christian Gospel Mission (commonly known as JMS) believers into a documentary without the consent of the parties involved, was dismissed without indictment by the prosecution.
The Women's and Children's Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jeong-min) announced on the 27th that Jo Seong-hyun PD, who was referred to the prosecution on charges of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, was dismissed without indictment.
After conducting supplementary investigations, the prosecution judged that PD Jo's actions constituted a justifiable act that did not violate social norms. A prosecution official stated, "We comprehensively considered the purpose of the program production, the context before and after, and the rating decision of the Video Rating Board."
Previously, PD Jo, who produced the Netflix documentary "I Am God," which dealt with sexual crime allegations against JMS founder Jeong Myeong-seok, was reported by church members for distributing nude videos of female believers without their consent.
Jeong was tried on charges of molesting or sexually assaulting a total of 23 times from February 2018 to September 2021 at training centers such as Wolmyeong-dong in Jinsan-myeon, Geumsan-gun, Chungnam Province, involving female believers of Hong Kong nationality and Korean female believers. The Supreme Court confirmed a 17-year prison sentence for President Jeong last January.
