The Seoul Independent Film Festival announced on the 27th that it has confirmed Mo Eun-young as the new executive committee chairperson.
The Korean Independent Film Association reported the new executive committee chairperson to the general meeting upon the recommendation of the board of directors and resolved the related matters at the Central Steering Committee on the 18th. Chairperson Mo will begin her duties next month.
Chairperson Mo majored in film and animation theory and has been active as a critic in numerous film media outlets. She has worked as a programmer for film festivals such as the Seoul Indie-AniFest, Seoul Environmental Film Festival, and Indie Forum. From 2004 to 2007, she served as an executive committee member of the Seoul Independent Film Festival, and since 2017, she has been the programmer in charge of Korean films at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
This year, with the entire budget from the Korean Film Council cut for the Seoul Independent Film Festival, the role of the executive committee chairperson has become more important than ever. Chairperson Mo stated, "Although the conditions are not easy, I will contemplate the role and significance of independent films in the Korean film industry and work to expand its boundaries."
