Picture Book Packages and Book Play Programs at Five Public Libraries
Including Junghung, Ilgok, and Unam
Buk-gu in Gwangju is launching a reading support project for children aged 7 and under. On the 27th, Buk-gu announced that starting from the 31st of this month, it will distribute picture book packages and operate book play programs with parents at five public libraries as part of the 'Early Childhood Bookstart Project'.
Bookstart is a reading promotion program designed to help children naturally become familiar with books through picture books and reading activities tailored to the developmental stage of infants and toddlers, from birth to pre-school age. Buk-gu has prepared this project with the aim of fostering early reading habits and spreading a culture of reading in the community.
This project is divided into three stages by age group: Bookstart (0-18 months), Plus (19-35 months), and Treasure Box (36 months to pre-school). A total of 400 book packages, each containing two picture books appropriate for each stage, will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The book packages will be distributed sequentially at five public libraries: Junghung, Ilgok, Unam, Yangsan, and Sinyong.
To apply for a book package, residents can register during the designated application periods for each library through the Buk-gu Integrated Library website. Duplicate applications at more than one of the five libraries are not allowed, and packages can only be collected at the initially selected library.
The book play program will run from April to June. Parents and children can participate together in activities that encourage interaction through books. A total of 100 teams will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis, and customized classes will be held at each library. There are no fees for tuition or materials.
Residents who wish to participate can check the recruitment schedules for each library on the Buk-gu Integrated Library website and apply accordingly. For more information, contact the district office's library department or the relevant library.
