The 100-member citizen evaluation group will conduct undercover evaluations on vehicle cleanliness, operational stability, driver friendliness, and more for 232 buses on 120 routes operated by the city under a semi-public operation system. The city plans to incorporate the group's suggestions into transportation policy formulation and the operation of the semi-public bus system.
The evaluation period for the citizen group lasts until the end of the year. By district, there are 43 members from Cheoin-gu, 43 from Giheung-gu, and 14 from Suji-gu, with each member responsible for evaluating 3 to 4 routes. The city intends to reflect the evaluation results in the calculation of transportation companies' performance profits and limited license assessment criteria to induce practical service improvements.
Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin said, "Not only the road network but also the public transportation network is unevenly formed by region, and some village buses have long intervals between dispatches, causing inconvenience to citizens in many areas. We will continuously work to reduce dispatch intervals by resolving the shortage of bus drivers and other measures."
The mayor added, "Through the activities of the citizen evaluation group, we will proactively identify issues by route and promptly implement improvement measures in close consultation with transportation companies."
Meanwhile, Yongin City is conducting training for transportation workers and improving their treatment to increase bus usage rates and shorten dispatch intervals. Through these efforts, the city is improving the bus usage environment by increasing the number of buses on major routes, including the new operation of route 502 in Mabuk-dong, as well as routes 80-2 (Sangha-dong), 35-2 (Singal and Gugal-dong), 99 (Sanghyeon-dong), 50 (Bojeong-dong), 5 (Jungang and Yurim-dong), and 26 (Mabuk-dong).
