The redevelopment project of Yongsan Maintenance Depot Front Zone 1 is a complex development project worth 955.8 billion KRW, constructing 12 buildings with 38 floors including residential, commercial, and office facilities, as well as a cultural park, on the site of 40-641 Hangang-ro 3-ga, Yongsan-gu, Seoul (71,901㎡).

Due to the nature of the complex development project, customized structural design according to the use of each facility is essential, and maximizing structural stability and efficiency is important. It is necessary to address the structural complexity unique to mixed-use facilities, such as seismic performance, office space utilization and openness, and flexibility and accessibility of commercial facilities.

LERA plans to introduce cutting-edge structural engineering design technologies including △special vibration damping device application technology △performance-based design technology △special seismic design technology △wind load resistance design technology △large-span structures for large spaces and flexible floor layouts.

HDC Hyundai Development Company aims to complete the Yongsan Maintenance Depot project as a safe and sustainable global landmark based on LERA’s global project experience and innovative design technology.

An official from HDC Hyundai Development Company said, "Yongsan Maintenance Depot Front Zone 1, which will be completed through cooperation with LERA, which possesses world-class structural design technology, will become a new standard representing global complex developments," adding, "We will benchmark successful global complex development cases such as Hudson Yards in New York, Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, and Azabudai Hills to transform Yongsan into Seoul’s future and a world-class landmark."

A representative from LERA said, "We will focus the experience and advanced technology accumulated from designing supertall landmarks and complex buildings around the world on the Yongsan Maintenance Depot project to present innovative designs that achieve both structural stability and sustainability."

LERA is a global engineering firm that has performed structural design for world-renowned supertall buildings such as the World Trade Center in New York, Shanghai World Financial Center in China, and Merdeka PNB 118 in Malaysia. Domestically, it has been responsible for the structural design of landmark buildings such as Jamsil Lotte World Tower, Yeouido Park One, Incheon International Airport, and Samsung-dong GBC.
