On the 26th (local time), Hyundai Motor Group held the HMGMA completion ceremony in Ellabell, Georgia, USA, attended by over 500 people including Chairman Chung Eui-sun of Hyundai Motor Group, executives, and distinguished guests. In his welcoming speech, Chairman Chung emphasized, "HMGMA represents a value more important than innovative manufacturing capabilities. What we focus on is the future of mobility, and it is here that we will open that future together."
Built on a site four times the size of Yeouido, HMGMA is a strategic production base in the U.S. that incorporates state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies. It is expected to drive global growth in automobile production not only in the U.S. but worldwide. Additionally, it is anticipated to strengthen economic cooperation between Korea and the U.S. beyond the regional level and contribute to sustainable growth.
The completion ceremony was attended by Chairman Chung, Group Vice Chairman Jang Jae-hoon, Hyundai Motor CEO Jose Munoz, Kia CEO Song Ho-sung, HMGMA employees, as well as over 500 guests including Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, U.S. Congressman Buddy Carter, Georgia Tech President ?ngel Cabrera, and Ambassador Cho Hyun-dong to the U.S.

HMGMA took two years to complete after groundbreaking in October 2022. Production of the 'Ioniq 5' began last October, and from this month, the group has started mass production of Hyundai’s electrified flagship SUV, the 'Ioniq 9.' Next year, Kia models will be added to production, with plans to expand the lineup to Genesis vehicles in the future.
HMGMA has incorporated numerous advanced manufacturing technologies developed and demonstrated at Hyundai Motor Group’s Singapore Global Innovation Center (HMGICS). In particular, it has applied a mixed-model production system to produce not only electric vehicles but also hybrid models starting next year, aiming to meet the diverse eco-friendly vehicle demands of U.S. consumers.
With the completion of this additional production base with an annual capacity of 300,000 units, alongside Hyundai Motor’s Alabama plant (HMMA) and Kia’s Georgia plant (KaGA), Hyundai Motor Group now has an annual production capacity of 1 million units in the U.S. This achievement comes 20 years after challenging local production at the Alabama plant in 2005.
Hyundai Motor Group plans to invest $21 billion (approximately 31 trillion KRW) in the U.S. by 2028. Of this, $8.6 billion (approximately 12 trillion KRW) will be used to increase HMGMA’s production capacity by 200,000 units, expanding local production to 1.2 million units.
Regarding the $20.1 billion investment, Chairman Chung stated, "It will be invested in parts and steel sheets used in parts," adding, "I believe there will be focused investments in new technologies, robotics, and future air mobility (AAM) sectors."
